Azerbaijani chess player reaches semi-finals of World Cup

Azerbaijani chess player Nijat Abasov has reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in Baku.

According to Caliber.Az, the 28-year-old grandmaster beat India's Vidit Santosh 1:0 in the return match of the 1/4 finals.

The first match between them ended in a draw.

We should note that at the 1/8 final stage, Nijat Abasov knocked out Saleh Salem from the United Arab Emirates, and Vidit Santosh knocked out the Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi, who is playing under the flag of the International Chess Federation.
