Azerbaijan to officially receive Sumo World Championship flag in Thailand
Azerbaijan will officially receive the temporary flag of the Sumo World Championship at the global tournament in Bangkok, Thailand, this September.
Vice-President of the Japanese Martial Arts and Culture Association Ulvi Agamirov said that the handover marks another step toward hosting the championship in Baku in 2026, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
He spoke about his participation in the presentation ceremony of the World Championship, which will be held in Baku in 2026, at the Sumo Expo 2025 in Osaka (Japan): “In the Azerbaijani pavilion operating as part of the Osaka Expo, the presentation of the World Championship took place on August 5 and was highly praised by visitors. The championship’s promotional video and the official mascot, Azumo, have already been unveiled to the public. The mascot is a symbol of strength and hospitality.”
According to Agamirov, preparations have already begun.
