Florian Wirtz named Germany's Footballer of the Year for 2025
The summer signing emerged as the winner of a poll conducted by Kicker magazine, with Florian Wirtz selected by almost a third of more than 600 journalists who participated.
After two goals in five appearances for his country at Euro 2024 last summer, the attacker delivered 31 goal contributions – 16 goals and 15 assists – for Bayer Leverkusen across all competitions during 2024-25, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Liverpool FC website.
“I’m aware that at 22, I still have a lot of work ahead of me to live up to all the expectations that come with being named Footballer of the Year, among others,” he said. “And I’ll continue to set those expectations for myself regardless.”
Wirtz, who sealed a transfer to the Premier League champions from Leverkusen in June, was named on the 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist earlier this week too.
