Azerbaijani, Iranian presidents meet in Astana PHOTO
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with President of Iran Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi in Astana on October 13.
Expressing satisfaction with the meeting, Raisi said that Azerbaijan is a very important partner for his country among the neighbours of Iran, according to Azertag.
The Iranian leader hailed the level of trade and economic ties with Azerbaijan, noting that Tehran has a serious intention to comprehensively develop cooperation with Azerbaijan.
For his part, President Aliyev said that Azerbaijan continues to make efforts to ensure peace and security in the Caspian Sea and the South Caucasus region.
He also expressed satisfaction with the development of relations based on friendship, in particular, between the Caspian countries.
Stressing that Azerbaijan is pursuing an independent foreign policy, President Aliyev drew attention to the fact that on September 12-13 this year, Armenia committed provocations aimed at aggravating the regional situation.
Noting that peacebuilding processes are currently underway in the South Caucasus, the head of state said that Azerbaijan proposed signing a peace treaty with Armenia based on the 5 principles he put forward.
The president of Azerbaijan noted that he believes in the possibility of achieving progress in this direction if Armenia shows political will.
It was noted at the meeting that the opening of the Aghband bridge between Azerbaijan and Iran has both symbolic and great practical significance.
During the conversation, an exchange of views took place on issues of regional security of mutual interest.
