Azerbaijani MP explores strengthening UK ties during British Parliament visit
MP Fariz Ismayilzada, head of the Working Group on Azerbaijan-UK Inter-Parliamentary Relations, conducted a working visit to the United Kingdom to explore ways to deepen bilateral ties and enhance cooperation across various sectors.
During his visit, Ismailzadeh engaged in discussions with members of the British Parliament, focusing on strengthening inter-parliamentary relations and economic collaboration, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Ismayilzada also participated in a panel discussion titled “COP29 and Climate Change Initiatives: Reflections in a Year of Uncertainty” held in the UK Parliament. He highlighted Azerbaijan’s achievements during COP29 and reiterated the nation’s dedication to global climate efforts.
The MP further expanded his agenda by meeting with representatives from influential UK-based think tanks. Discussions centred on global security, regional development, and Azerbaijan’s contributions to addressing international challenges.
At an event hosted by the Azerbaijani Embassy to mark the 35th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy, Ismayilzada honoured the memory of Azerbaijan’s martyrs, or Shehids, and reflected on the historical significance of the event.
Additionally, Ismayilzada met with representatives from the University of Warwick, exploring opportunities to enhance academic and research collaboration between Azerbaijani universities and their British counterparts.
The MP also connected with Azerbaijani students studying in London as part of the State Program for 2022–2026 on Education of Youth in Prestigious Higher Education Institutions Abroad. He listened to their academic experiences, discussed their aspirations, and underscored their role in promoting Azerbaijan internationally.
Ismayilzada’s visit reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to fostering closer ties with the UK and advancing cooperation in education, research, economy, and global climate initiatives.
