Azerbaijani President mourns passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has extended his condolences to Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, following the death of Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
In a message addressed to the Qatari leader, Aliyev said he received the news of Sheikh Hamad’s passing with deep sorrow, describing him as a distinguished statesman and a great leader who left an enduring mark on Qatar’s history.
The Azerbaijani president praised Sheikh Hamad’s lifelong dedication to his country, noting that he demonstrated unwavering devotion to Qatar and worked tirelessly to advance its prosperity and development.
Aliyev also highlighted Sheikh Hamad’s role in strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and Qatar, saying Father Amir made an exceptional contribution to the establishment and expansion of friendly ties and cooperation between the two nations.
“I remember with the warmest feelings his visits to Azerbaijan and my meetings with him. The cherished memory of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani will always live in our hearts,” Aliyev said.
Expressing solidarity with Qatar during the period of mourning, the Azerbaijani president conveyed his deepest condolences to Sheikh Tamim, members of the ruling family, and the people of Qatar on behalf of himself and the people of Azerbaijan.
Aliyev concluded his message with a prayer for the late Father Amir, underscoring the respect and admiration Sheikh Hamad earned both at home and abroad, as his legacy continues to be remembered in Qatar and among its international partners.
