Azerbaijani president visits int'l Lachin airport construction site

On June 26, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev got acquainted with the construction of Lachin International Airport.

The head of state was informed about the work carried out at the airport, Azertag reports.

It was noted that the construction of Lachin International Airport, the foundation of which was laid in 2021, is scheduled to be completed in 2024. The length of the airport's runway will be 3,000 metres, and the width will be 60 metres.

Lachin is located in a mountainous region, so work continues on the planning of the territory.

The area of the airport terminal building designed in accordance with international standards is 5,000 square metres, it will be able to serve 200 passengers per hour.

It was noted that the work on the design of the air traffic control tower, transformer buildings, a checkpoint and other auxiliary structures of the airport has also been completed.

The conditions created at Lachin International Airport will allow flights to be operated in accordance with ICAO and IATA standards.

The airport is located at a distance of 30 km from the city of Lachin, 70 km from the city of Shusha and 60 km from Kalbajar. Along with its strategic purpose, in the future, this airport will make full use of the tourist potential of the region.

Lachin International Airport is one of the important elements of President Ilham Aliyev's road transport strategy on the territories liberated from Armenian occupation.
