BBC: France will give Ukraine three analogues of HIMARS
France intends to transfer three multiple launch rocket systems to Ukraine, an analogue of its modification HIMARS.
France has promised to give away three of its LRU M270 rocket launchers – this is a modernized analogue of HIMARS on caterpillar tracks. According to the BBC, this was discussed at the meeting of allies in the Ramstein format in Brussels on October 12.
The Air Force, citing weapons experts from the Oryx project, reports that France has only 12 LRU installations on the move, and another 40 unmodernized LRM M270s are stored in warehouses.
In an interview with French TV channel France 2 on October 12, President Emmanuel Macron said that France will supply Ukraine with air defence systems, including radars and missiles, in the coming weeks,
He didn’t provide details on what type of anti-aircraft missiles or how many would be transferred. Macron also confirmed that he had negotiated the delivery of six Caesar howitzers to Ukraine.
It was also reported that Canada and the Netherlands announced new military assistance to Ukraine. Ottawa will provide 500,000 winter military clothing and artillery shells, while the Netherlands will transfer air defence equipment to Ukraine for a total of 15 million euros. The Dutch Defense Ministry precised that the Netherlands will transfer anti-aircraft missiles for the system, which was already provided to Ukraine by another unnamed country.
