Beijing rejects EU allegations on Ukraine, calls for safe passage through Hormuz
China has dismissed allegations that its military personnel are assisting Russian forces in combat operations in Ukraine, describing the claims as unfounded and defamatory.
Speaking at a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian responded to remarks by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, who had suggested Chinese military involvement in support of Russia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“The relevant statements have no factual basis. They are pure slander and defamation,” Lin said, rejecting the allegations outright.
The comments came as Beijing also addressed growing international attention on maritime security in the Gulf region, urging the swift restoration of safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking at the same briefing, Lin emphasized the strategic importance of the waterway for global shipping and regional stability.
“The Strait of Hormuz is an important strait for international navigation. Restoring stability in the Strait serves the common interests of regional countries and the international community,” he said.
The spokesperson noted that China had taken note of recent diplomatic developments between Iran and the United States.
“We have noted that the text of the memorandum of understanding for the first stage of negotiations between Iran and the United States includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz,” Lin stated.
He expressed hope that maritime traffic through the key shipping route would resume safely as soon as possible.
“We hope the Strait will become safe again for free passage at an early date,” he said.
Lin added that China remains prepared to work with regional governments and international partners on issues related to maritime security and stability.
“China stands ready to maintain communication with regional countries and the international community on relevant issues,” he said.
