Belorussian president commends his activity
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has said that if he would have left his current post in 2020, the situation in Belarus would have been “worse than in Ukraine”.
“What would happen if I left everything in 2020? Today the country would be different and you would interview other people. The policy would be different. Today it would be worse in Belarus than in Ukraine. Sorry for the indiscretion,” President Lukashenko said in an interview with Agence France-Presse on July 21, TASS reports.
“The decision on my staying in power is made by the Belarusian people rather than by me,” President Lukashenko was quoted by the presidential press service as saying.
“Perhaps I would have left power long ago if there was a certain situation in the country and beyond it. However, those who have taken to the streets since 2020, came to their senses, understood what could have happened and admitted that they were wrong,” the president noted.
The president added that he knows the sentiments of people after the presidential elections in 2020.
