Biden’s comeback speech rattles Democrats in US
US ex-President Joe Biden’s reappearance this week with his first major public address since leaving office has sparked a wave of unease within the Democratic Party, which is still grappling with the fallout of its 2024 election defeats.
Biden’s speech, delivered after months of political silence, marked his official return to the national stage, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
But while some welcomed the familiar voice, others within the party questioned the timing — and the impact — of his comeback. Several Democrats say the party is in the early stages of rebuilding and needs room to regroup and redefine itself without the shadow of its recent leadership.
They argue Biden’s presence, though well-intentioned, may hinder that process. Even loyalists are expressing discomfort. Michael LaRosa, who served as communications director for former First Lady Jill Biden, offered a blunt assessment of the situation.
“I love both Bidens dearly, but staff loyalty means there is a responsibility to provide them with an honest situational awareness, especially when it comes to their public image, no matter how hurtful it is to hear,” said LaRosa.
He suggested that Biden’s advisers may be out of touch with the current political climate within the party.
“If they had advisers who had their hand on the pulse of the Democratic Party or national politics, they would have understood the intense level of anger or indifference to them that remains inside our party and isn’t going away anytime soon,” LaRosa said. “It’s a heartbreaking and tragic ending to their time in public life, but it’s also the truth, and they should index the political realities into their decisionmaking,” he added.
