Bild: German opposition proposes allowing foreigners to join army

The German opposition bloc of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) has drafted a document describing the prospect of recruiting foreigners into the Bundeswehr.

Bild reports citing the document that the initiators want to make military service possible for citizens of European Union (EU) countries living in Germany. According to the authors of the document, such a possibility should also be provided for foreigners from non-EU countries. The main condition is that they reside in the FRG on a permanent basis.

It is specified that the initiative is to be approved at the intra-party level.
