Hungary's Orban proposes peace first, then redefinition of Ukraine's borders VIDEO
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has outlined his vision for the EU's relations with Ukraine, an alternative to Brussels' attempts to continue the military conflict in the country while simultaneously accepting it into the EU.
“First, we urgently need a ceasefire and peace! Then we must define Ukraine - its borders, its population. As of right now, we do not even know what or where Ukraine is!! Finally, once peace and clarity have been restored, we can make lasting agreements with Russia and lay the foundations for a strategic partnership with Ukraine - one that protects our sovereignty, while securing Europe’s future. This is what we must achieve,” Orban wrote on X, as per Caliber.Az.

Since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Hungary, led by Orbán since 2010, has diverged from the EU’s unified support for Kyiv. While most EU states have provided military aid and sanctions against Russia, Hungary has blocked aid packages, opposed sanctions, and resisted Ukraine’s EU and NATO integration, citing economic concerns and the rights of ethnic Hungarians in Ukraine’s Transcarpathia. Tensions over Ukraine’s 2017 education law, which limited Hungarian-language education, have fueled Hungary’s objections, despite amendments in 2023.
