Pacific nation Nauru plans diplomatic mission in Jerusalem

The Republic of Nauru will open an embassy in Jerusalem, Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar revealed in a post on X, welcoming the move as a step toward strengthening bilateral ties.

Saar said the decision followed a meeting last week with Nauru’s Vice President Lionel Aingimea.

The planned embassy will become the tenth foreign diplomatic mission in Jerusalem, according to the Israeli foreign minister.

“Nauru is a true friend of Israel, and the opening of the embassy will undoubtedly contribute to deepening relations between our countries,” Saar wrote on his X account.

Jerusalem currently hosts embassies from the United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Kosovo, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay and Fiji. Colombia is also expected to open an embassy in the city in the near future.

Nauru is a small independent island state in the southern Pacific Ocean, located in the Micronesian region.
