Mediators await Tehran’s response on 10-day Iran-US ceasefire proposal

Mediators seeking to broker a settlement between Iran and the United States are awaiting Tehran’s response to a proposal for a 10-day ceasefire, amid Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni’s visit to Pakistan, Al Jazeera reports.

The broadcaster noted that Momeni remains in Pakistan and has already held talks with Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed that, despite ongoing hostilities, diplomatic channels through mediators remain active.

The United States has also yet to provide a response to the proposal.

On July 20, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei confirmed that mediators had submitted new proposals to Tehran aimed at stabilising the situation.

Reuters previously reported, citing sources, that mediators had presented Washington and Tehran with a proposal for a 10-day ceasefire.
