Iran confirms receiving de-escalation proposals from mediators UPDATED

Mediators have presented Iran with a proposal aimed at de-escalating the conflict with the United States, offering a 10-day ceasefire to allow efforts to revive an interim agreement reached last month, ⁠a senior Iranian ​official told Reuters on Monday, July 20.

Iran has received “some proposals” from mediators aimed at easing the current tensions, but details will be made public later, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei announced.

“We have received proposals from mediators, but, with your permission, I will not go into details at this time. I confirm that ideas have been put forward,” he said during a briefing.

A new escalation in the US-Iran conflict began on July 8. The US military launched several rounds of strikes on Iranian territory for the first time since the signing of a memorandum between Washington and Tehran, in response to an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

The same day, US President Donald Trump announced the end of the ceasefire with Iran. In response, Tehran launched strikes against US facilities in the Middle East located in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE and Oman.
