Pentagon chief puts Iran operation price tag at $37.5 billion

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth announced on July 21 that the total cost of the American military operation against Iran has reached $37.5 billion.

Speaking during a hearing before the Senate Appropriations Committee, Hegseth argued that the United States possesses all the capabilities necessary to secure a resolution to the conflict on Washington’s terms.

Hegseth asserted that the United States was winning the conflict and had already achieved victory, adding that the final outcome would be determined on terms set by Washington and US President Donald Trump, while also pointing to what he described as a significant degradation of Iran’s military capabilities.

The Pentagon chief also stressed that the United States would do everything possible to ensure that Iran never acquires nuclear weapons.

The hearing focused on the administration’s request for an additional $87 billion in funding for the conflict with Iran, which has been ongoing for nearly five months.
