AP: US military confirms third service member killed in Jordan base attack

The U.S. military has confirmed that a third service member believed to have been killed in a July 17 attack on a base in Jordan was Sgt. Angel S. Rampersad, 28, of New York.

The confirmation brings the number of U.S. service members killed since the start of the war to 18, according to the military, the Associated Press reports. 

Following the attack, U.S. Central Command initially announced that two service members had been killed and another was missing. The following day, the command said troops had found unidentified remains and that an examination was underway to confirm their identity.

The number of U.S. troops wounded in the war has risen to more than 500, according to a U.S. official cited by an Associated Press Pentagon reporter on X.
