Polish lawmakers to submit bill decriminalising personal marijuana use
A group of Polish lawmakers from the coalition parties Civic Platform and Poland 2050 plans to submit a bill to the Sejm in September that would decriminalise the personal use of marijuana.
The proposed legislation aims to ease pressure on Poland’s penal system by ensuring that individuals caught with small amounts of cannabis are not subject to criminal prosecution or imprisonment, Caliber.Az reports via RMF FM.
Marcin Józefaciuk, a Civic Platform deputy involved in drafting the bill, noted that some technical details are still under discussion within the coalition.
“There may still be some minor issues that need to be agreed upon between coalition partners and factions — for example, the permissible amount of dried cannabis or number of plants,” he said.
The bill is expected to be submitted once the positions of other parliamentary groups are clarified. However, its passage remains uncertain, with the initiators expressing concern about whether they can secure the 231 votes needed for approval. The stance of the opposition Law and Justice party, which led the previous government, is likely to be a key factor.
