Brussels plans fresh aid for Armenian exporters, ambassador says

04 June 2026 14:05

The European Union intends to provide additional support to Armenia amid restrictions imposed by Russia on the import of certain Armenian goods.

EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos said during a meeting with Armenian exporters that key meetings and telephone conversations are scheduled for June 4, after which new support measures for Armenia will be announced, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

“Today there will be important meetings, phone calls, including with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, after which we will announce concrete additional support measures for Armenia,” Maragos said.

He noted that the purpose of his meeting with Armenian exporters and business representatives was to gather their proposals on how the European Union could assist in diversifying export markets and strengthening resilience amid current challenges.

The ambassador also highlighted that the European Union has already implemented numerous support programs for Armenia’s private sector.

“Armenian businesspeople are among the most successful not only here in Armenia but also around the world. This is truly an important starting point, but now we want to hear your views on current challenges. The main purpose of this meeting is to listen to your opinions and learn about your expectations. We are not here to replace the government, let me emphasize that clearly. And we are not doing anything new, because we are continuing what we have already started together,” the EU ambassador to Armenia said.
