Brussels weighs trade concessions and aid for Armenia
The European Union is preparing a package of support measures for Armenia, including preferential trade terms, as Yerevan faces economic restrictions imposed by Russia, according to Armenian media reports citing sources in Brussels.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan are expected to discuss the planned support during a phone call today, June 3, the reports said.
The proposed measures include financial assistance as well as the introduction of Autonomous Trade Measures (ATM), which would allow certain Armenian goods to enter the EU market without duties or quotas.
Such instruments are typically deployed by the EU to assist partner countries in stabilising their economies during periods of crisis, while also promoting deeper integration with the European market.
