Canada's new prime minister sworn in shortly after Trudeau's official resignation
Mark Carney has been officially sworn in as the 24th Prime minister of Canada a couple of hours after Justin Trudeau has officially resigned from his post on March 14 in the presence of the Governor General of Canada.
The Governor General Mary Simon, who is the federal representative of the Canadian monarch administering the Canadian government in the monarch's name, King Charles III at the moment, has received Trudeau in the morning hours of March 14, Caliber.Az reports citing Canadian media.
The swearing-in ceremony for the next Prime Minister, Mark Carney occurred only a short while after at Rideau Hall in Ottawa. This follows a mere days after Carney, who has previously held the role of Governor of the Bank of Canada as well as later that of the Bank of England, has been elected the leader of the governing Liberal Party.
His interim cabinet is expected to be smaller than Trudeau's 37-member team and almost certainly will be in place when a general election is launched later this year. A total of 18 Trudeau government cabinet ministers not joining the new administration, while Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly has remained.
