CBS News: Iranian flag found in home of Austin shooting suspect
Authorities have discovered an Iranian flag and photographs of Islamic Republic leaders in the residence of the man suspected of carrying out a shooting in Austin, Texas, CBS News reports, citing sources.
The incident occurred on the night of March 1 in a busy part of the city, when an unidentified gunman opened fire on patrons at an outdoor bar from his SUV and continued shooting after leaving the vehicle.
Two people were killed, and 14 others were injured. The gunman, who was shot and killed by police, was wearing a sweatshirt reading "Property of Allah" during the attack, according to two sources familiar with the investigation.
Austin police identified the shooter as 53-year-old Ndiaga Diagne, a naturalised US citizen born in Senegal.
Investigators are exploring possible signs of extremist ideology, but caution that it is too early to determine a motive. Authorities are also reviewing the suspect’s mental state and potential international connections.
