Civilian death toll across Middle East continues to rise as Iran war spreads
The number of casualties from the ongoing exchange of strikes in the Middle East continues to climb across both civilian and military populations.
Estimates of losses published by regional sources and official records have been compiled by CNN, reporting the following figures:
Iran
More than 1,300 civilians have been killed in strikes by the United States and Israel, according to Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations. A similar figure has been cited by the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), which recorded 1,262 civilians and 190 military personnel to have been killed since February 28.
Lebanon
Lebanon has emerged as the second hotspot against which Israeli strikes are being conducted. At least 570 people have been killed there since the strikes began, according to Lebanon’s Disaster Risk Management Unit. Two Israeli soldiers have also been killed in southern Lebanon in the course.
Iraq
Eighteen members of Iraq’s Popular Mobilisation Forces were killed in airstrikes. In addition, three Iranian Kurdish fighters and one security officer of the Kurdistan Regional Government died during the conflict.
Israel
Iran has been firing retaliatory strikes on Israel since the first day of the war, which has killed at least 12 people. Nine of them died when a missile struck a residential building in Beit Shemesh shortly after the outbreak of hostilities.
Kuwait
At least 12 people have been killed so far, including six US service members, two Kuwaiti soldiers and two Kuwaiti security personnel, according to figures provided by US Central Command and local authorities.
United Arab Emirates
Six people have been killed so far in Iranian attacks, which includes citizens of the UAE, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh, according to the Ministry of Defense.
Saudi Arabia
Two people were killed after a projectile struck a residential house in Al-Kharj. According to the US military, another American service member later died of wounds sustained in an attack on US troops in Saudi Arabia.
Bahrain
One person died in a fire on a foreign navy vessel caused by debris from an intercepted missile. A 29-year-old Bahraini woman was also killed in a strike on Manama.
Oman
An Indian national was killed after a drone boat attacked an oil tanker 52 nautical miles off the country’s coast, according to the Oman News Agency.
