Danish politicians call for deportation of activists honouring Iran’s Khamenei
Following the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in an alleged U.S.-Israeli strike, Danish Muslim activist Saif Shah Muhammad staged a tribute outside the Iranian Embassy in Copenhagen.
He laid flowers and placed a photograph of Khamenei as a demonstration of solidarity with Iran and protest against the United States, according to DR.
The action drew sharp criticism from Danish politicians. Alex Vanopslagh, leader of the Liberal Alliance, and Inger Støjberg, head of the Social Democrats, condemned the display, calling it unacceptable in Denmark.
Støjberg emphasised that “nothing Khamenei stood for has a place in Denmark” and suggested that participants in the tribute should “catch the next flight home.” Both politicians noted that glorifying Khamenei runs counter to the values expected of Danish citizens.
Saif Shah Muhammad is a controversial figure in Denmark, previously known for burning the Danish flag and for his association with the Imam Ali Mosque in Copenhagen’s northwest district, which has drawn scrutiny for extremist links.
