Denmark, Norway forge stronger military ties in Arctic defence cooperation
Copenhagen and Oslo have agreed to bolster military cooperation in the North Atlantic region and have finalized an agreement for enhanced bilateral defence collaboration, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
According to a press release from the Danish Ministry of Defence, Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen and his Norwegian counterpart Bjorn Arild Gram signed a joint statement on June 24.
The statement outlines their mutual commitment to intensify cooperation in monitoring the Arctic and North Atlantic areas, as well as in supporting Ukraine.
Minister Poulsen emphasized the significance of closer ties with neighbouring allies amidst the ongoing conflict in Europe, stating, "I am pleased that Denmark and Norway are strengthening our armed forces' collaboration. In light of current regional challenges, robust cooperation with our northern neighbours and allies is crucial."
Both the Danish and Norwegian armed forces possess advanced military assets such as Leopard 2 tanks, F-35 fighter jets, and SEAHAWK helicopters, facilitating favourable conditions for joint training and exercises, as highlighted by military officials.
