New York-bound passenger aircraft reports mid-air collision with drone
A passenger aircraft collided with a drone while approaching for landing at New York's JFK Airport, Sky News reports.
The incident took place while the aircraft was flying at an altitude of 3,000 feet.
According to ATC.com, a platform that broadcasts live air traffic control communications, the pilot reported: "We collided with a drone back there in the turn. It hit us right above the cockpit."
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the incident.
The aircraft involved was an Airbus A321, which can accommodate up to 220 passengers. It was operating a flight from Las Vegas and landed safely without requiring any emergency assistance.
JetBlue said all passengers left the aircraft as usual and that an inspection found "no damage or evidence of a collision."
The airline added in a statement: "Safety is JetBlue's first priority, and we will assist with any relevant investigations."
