EU grants €5.5 million to Armenia for justice reforms
The European Union has transferred €5.5 million to Armenia’s state budget as part of its ongoing support for reforms in the country’s justice system.
The announcement came following a meeting between Armenia’s Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan and the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Vassilios Maragos, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
According to the Justice Ministry, the funds have been provided under the programme “Support to Justice Reforms in Armenia: Phase II,” which has been described as progressing successfully.
The initiative focuses on several key areas, including the development of judicial and anti-corruption strategies, the introduction of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, integrity assessments for prosecutors and investigators, and the expansion of conditional non-custodial sentencing.
EU officials say the programme is intended to strengthen the rule of law in Armenia and help build greater public confidence in the country’s judicial institutions.
