EU leaders set to express concerns over Georgian government Ahead of key summit
European Union (EU) leaders are gearing up to express significant dissatisfaction with the Georgian government, amid concerns that the ruling party's actions could jeopardize the country's integration into the political union.
According to a draft statement set to be discussed at the upcoming EU summit in Brussels on October 17-18, dissatisfaction is particularly focused on the rhetoric and actions of the ruling Georgian Dream party, which have raised alarms in European capitals, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Despite Georgia being granted candidate status for EU accession at the end of 2023, the document highlights the EU's serious concerns regarding the current trajectory of the Georgian authorities.
The EU statement reaffirms the Union's commitment to supporting the Georgian people on their European journey, while simultaneously emphasizing that the government's recent actions threaten Georgia's path to EU membership and effectively stall the accession process.
