14 October 2024 17:33

A solemn event was held in the building of the first Turkish parliament on October 13 to mark the 101st anniversary of Ankara's declaration as the capital of Türkiye.

Ankara Governor Vasip Şahin addressed the participants of the event and spoke about the historical role of the city in the national liberation struggle of the Turkish people, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

"A fateful milestone in Ankara's history was the arrival of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in the city on 27 December 1919," Şahin said, calling Ankara "the cradle of the Republic."

According to the governor, the modern Ankara province is a major industrial and technological centre comprising 25 districts.

"Ankara is also the centre of education in Türkiye. Today, the number of students in the city exceeds 1.5 million. We have a responsibility to preserve and pass on the legacy of Ataturk and his associates to future generations," Şahin noted.

The participants of the event visited the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder and first President of Türkiye, honouring the memory of all participants of the national liberation struggle.
