Kremlin reacts to US president's nuclear arms talks proposal Calls for broader security discussions
The Kremlin acknowledged the importance of arms reduction discussions but insisted that these talks must encompass broader security issues.
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, reacted to US President Joe Biden's recent comments about the need for nuclear arms negotiations, stating that discussions on nuclear weapons "cannot be delayed," Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
Peskov emphasized the necessity of linking nuclear discussions to the wider context of security, especially given the ongoing tensions between Russia and the West. "It is absolutely impossible to discuss this matter without addressing all other aspects of security," he noted, reiterating sentiments previously expressed by President Putin.
Earlier, Biden stated that the United States stands ready to engage in talks with Russia, China, and North Korea without preconditions to reduce the nuclear threat. “There is no benefit to our nations or the world to forestall progress on reducing nuclear arsenals. Reducing the nuclear threat is important not despite the dangers of today’s world but precisely because of them,” Biden noted.
