Georgian speaker calls opposition “pseudo-religious sect”

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has described opposition representatives as a “pseudo-religious sect” with its own rituals and dogmas.

Speaking at a briefing, he said they have their own rituals, and we see them every day on Rustaveli Avenue, where they carry them out, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.

“They have their own guru who preaches from their television channel, they have their own chants during the rituals, and they have their own sacred objects in the form of the European Union flag, which they pray to,” Papuashvili noted.

According to him, the opposition behaves like a fundamentalist sect in which those who disagree with its views are persecuted, while defectors, as he put it, are “stoned”.
