Fire breaks out at national scientific centre in Kazakhstan

A fire broke out in the administrative building of the Masgut Aikimbayev National Scientific Centre for Particularly Dangerous Infections in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The Emergency Situations Service has said the blaze was extinguished, and no one was injured, Caliber.Az reprots, citing Kazakh media.

“On September 21 at 23:45, Almaty emergency services were dispatched to 14 Zhakhanгер Street in the Turksib district. Upon arrival several minutes later, it was established that household appliances and belongings were burning on the second floor of a two-storey administrative building, covering an area of approximately 20 square metres. The fire was completely extinguished at 00:38. There were no casualties. A total of 20 personnel and five pieces of equipment from the Almaty Department of Emergency Situations were deployed to the scene,” an official statement noted.

Footage showing fire engines near the centre was posted on the Instagram account almatinec_live.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, with a short circuit considered the preliminary cause.
