Erdoğan gives gold coin to baby after meeting family waiting in rain

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met citizens gathered outside the House of Turkic Culture in New York during his visit for the UN General Assembly and gave a gold coin to a baby whose parents had waited for four hours in the rain to see him.

Erdoğan noticed the baby in the crowd, asked for the barrier to be opened and invited the family forward, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media. 

The president spoke with the child’s parents, who had travelled from Germany. When the baby began crying after becoming frightened by the crowd, Erdoğan gave him a gold coin and asked the parents not to make the child cry.

The baby’s father, Muhammad Urker, said the family had waited in the rain for four hours to meet Erdoğan. He described the encounter as an indescribable and deeply moving moment that he would tell his son about in the future.

Among those gathered to greet Erdoğan was Ahmed Abdullah, a doctor of Egyptian origin, who thanked the Turkish president for his efforts on behalf of humanity and his support for people in need around the world.
