Georgia arrests man accused of defrauding customers of $320,000 in car scam

Georgian authorities have arrested a man accused of defrauding customers of 833,000 lari ($320,000) in a car-import scam.

According to the case, the suspect offered foreigners the opportunity to import vehicles from the United States to Georgia at favourable prices and demanded advance payments, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.

The victims transferred money to his cryptocurrency wallet and bank accounts but never received the vehicles, authorities said.

The suspect is charged with large-scale fraud in 10 separate cases involving a total of 833,000 lari.

If convicted, he faces up to nine years in prison.
