Pashinyan: Armenia seeks deeper ties with Russia under new conditions

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said relations between Armenia and Russia will change as the country moves from a period of conflict to an “atmosphere of peace”.

Pashinyan said Yerevan had no intention of severing ties with Moscow and instead wanted to deepen relations under new conditions, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media. 

“Our relations with Russia will inevitably change; this has nothing to do with any particular person or political force. No matter who it may be, relations between Armenia and Russia will not be the same as before,” Pashinyan stated.

He linked the expected transformation in relations to changes in the situation surrounding Armenia, saying the previous relationship had developed in conditions of conflict, while the country was now “in an atmosphere of peace”.

“We want to deepen our relations, but in a new environment and under new conditions,” Pashinyan said.

He added that Armenia would not enter into conflict with Russia but would continue to defend its positions “calmly and consistently.”
