Azerbaijanis in Georgia vital to country's political landscape, says pundit
Local Azerbaijanis play a crucial role in the socio-political processes taking place in Georgia, with Azerbaijani citizens having sacrificed their lives in the struggle for the country's sovereignty, independence, and freedom.
The remarks were made by Zurab Papaskiri, a political scientist and professor at Sukhumi State University, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Papaskiri emphasized that Azerbaijanis serve as a bridge in strengthening relations with Baku, stating, “It is now impossible to imagine Georgia without Azerbaijanis.”
With discussions around potential changes in Georgia's leadership, one of the key concerns among the populace is the future of the country’s relationships with neighbouring states. Papaskiri remarked,
“Regardless of who comes to power, the relationship with neighbouring countries, especially with Azerbaijan, will not change.”
He highlighted that the friendly ties between Georgia and Azerbaijan have a long-standing history, adding, “Today, the relationship between the two countries has reached a level of strategic partnership. No matter the political stance of future leaders, they will not be able to undermine these relations, as the Georgian people will not allow it.”
