Erdogan offers condolences after deadly earthquake in northwest Türkiye
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed condolences and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in an earthquake that struck the country’s northwestern Balıkesir province on August 10, killing one person and injuring dozens.
He noted that authorities had been mobilised “from the very first moment” and were closely monitoring the situation, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Turkish leader’s post on X.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that units from the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and other relevant agencies were immediately dispatched to the affected area.
“At present, no adverse situations have been recorded. We are monitoring the process minute by minute,” he said.
A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck Türkiye’s northwestern Balikesir province on August 10, killing one person, injuring 29 others and causing the collapse of 16 buildings, officials said.
The tremor was recorded in the Sındırgı district, with its epicenter at a depth of 11 kilometres.
According to local media, two other earthquakes, measuring 4.6 and 4.3 in magnitude, were also recorded in Manisa.
