Kremlin confirms August 15 Alaska summit between Putin and Trump
The Kremlin has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump will hold talks in Alaska on August 15, marking their first face-to-face meeting since Trump returned to the White House in January 2025.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters that “the American side has just announced that an agreement has been reached to organise a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump on Friday, August 15, in Alaska. Russia and the US are close neighbours, sharing a border, and it seems quite logical that our delegation should simply fly across the Bering Strait for such an important and long-awaited summit between the two leaders to take place in Alaska.”
Trump had earlier confirmed the planned meeting in a post on Truth Social, saying he expected to meet his Russian counterpart on August 15.
The final arrangements follow earlier statements from Ushakov on August 7, when he said Russia and the US had agreed to hold a leaders’ meeting in the coming days. That same day, Putin confirmed that preparations were underway, stressing that there was mutual interest in direct talks.
The announcements came shortly after US Special Representative Steven Witkoff visited Moscow on August 6, where he held a three-hour meeting with Putin.
