Tehran hosts talks on Iran–Armenia–Georgia–Russia energy corridor

26 July 2026 14:25

Iranian Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi and Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan held talks in Tehran on expanding bilateral energy cooperation.

The two sides stressed the need to accelerate the long-delayed project to build a third power transmission line between Iran and Armenia, which has been under development for 12 years, and agreed to continue working jointly on its implementation, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.

The Iranian side also raised the issue of constructing the Meghri hydropower plant, while the Armenian minister reaffirmed Yerevan's readiness to cooperate, citing previously reached agreements.

According to the report, an Omani company has expressed its willingness to finance and implement the hydropower project.

The ministers also discussed the creation of the Iran–Armenia–Georgia–Russia electricity corridor. Tehran said it is prepared to involve Iranian companies in the construction of the power transmission line linking Armenia and Georgia.

Aliabadi also voiced support for convening a working group to address pollution in the Aras River.
