Fire breaks out near military site in Russia’s Engels PHOTO

A fire broke out near a military facility in the Russian city of Engels early on Saturday, July 25, with initial reports suggesting a possible link to an overnight Ukrainian attack, although the cause remains unclear.

Open-source intelligence outlet ASTRA said analysis of eyewitness footage indicated that a building on Engels-1 Street was burning, a site believed to host a military unit.

Authorities in the Saratov region issued missile and drone alerts overnight. However, a local source cited by ASTRA said no sounds of an attack were heard, raising doubts about whether the fire was connected to Ukrainian strikes.

The incident occurred close to the Engels-2 military airbase, which has previously been targeted. Following a Ukrainian strike on July 16, satellite imagery confirmed damage to a Russian Tu-95MS strategic bomber stationed at the base.

According to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Tu-95MS bombers are routinely used by Russia’s Aerospace Forces to launch Kh-101 cruise missile attacks against Ukraine.
