Power restored across Georgia after second nationwide blackout in two days

Electricity has been fully restored across Georgia after a second nationwide blackout in less than 48 hours disrupted transport, water supplies, and other essential services, authorities said.

Officials said the latest outage was caused by damage to the Imereti high-voltage power transmission line, which triggered a failure across the national electricity grid, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.

"The system was disrupted, and the power grid itself failed," Levan Mebonia, director of the Inguri Hydroelectric Power Station, told Georgian media.

"The power line went out of service. We are switching on the generators, and the voltage will be restored shortly. The main load at Inguri is linked to the power grid up to Zestafoni. When that went offline, the system was disrupted and the entire power grid collapsed. We are in the process of rectifying the consequences of the incident," he said.

The blackout struck at around 8:00 a.m. local time on July 25, leaving large parts of the country, including the capital, Tbilisi, without electricity.

The outage disrupted operations on the Tbilisi Metro and forced the suspension of Georgian Railways services, according to local media. Water supply was also affected after pumping stations in Tbilisi lost power.

The incident marked the second major power outage to hit Georgia in two days. During the night of July 23–24, a separate nationwide blackout left most of the country, including Tbilisi, without electricity for several hours.
