Hamas: Gaza ceasefire talks at dead end
Qatar and Egypt continue their mediation efforts to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip, but the Palestinian movement Hamas has not yet received any information about tangible results.
This was stated by Usama Hamdan, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, in an interview with Al Araby.
“Everyone knows that during the last round of negotiations in Doha, we almost reached a suitable agreement acceptable to all parties. However, we were surprised by the statements of the U.S. special envoy [Stephen] Witkoff, which led to the collapse of the entire round. Undoubtedly, the mediators — our brothers in Qatar and Egypt — have not stopped their efforts despite the failure caused by the actions of Israel and the United States. Their efforts continue, but so far no tangible results have been achieved. We have not been officially informed of any outcomes,” Hamdan said.
Speaking about the possibility of reaching a comprehensive deal to resolve the Gaza conflict, he specified that Hamas presented a proposal over a year ago which included the cessation of Israeli aggression, the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops, the opening of all border crossings into Gaza, the reconstruction of Gaza, and the exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners.
According to Hamdan, Israel rejected this proposal and instead offered a phased agreement, which it later violated. The Hamas political bureau member assured that the movement would positively receive any comprehensive peace proposal for Gaza that includes these conditions.
