EU leaders to discuss Ukraine's security guarantees at emergency summit
EU leaders will convene for an emergency summit on March 6 to discuss European security guarantees for Ukraine and sovereign defensive measures.
The European Council President, António Costa, announced the summit in an open letter inviting EU leaders to the meeting, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The participants are expected to focus on "European defence," aiming to make initial decisions for the short-term to ensure Europe is more effective and better prepared to address current and future security challenges.
Costa emphasised that the EU must be ready to contribute to future security guarantees for Ukraine, essential for ensuring long-term peace.
Note that, French President Emmanuel Macron met with United States President Donald Trump in Washington on February 24 to urge security guarantees for Ukraine.
The week prior, Trump placed into question U.S. involvement in the conflict and called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “dictator without elections.”
