EU, NATO announce new task force to enhance cooperation
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte have agreed to establish a new working group aimed at strengthening collaboration between the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance.
This announcement came during their first meeting since Rutte took office as Secretary General of NATO, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
Their discussion focused on the importance of a close and strategic partnership between the Union and the Alliance.
Both agreed that in an increasingly dangerous world, this partnership is vital in order to champion and safeguard peace, freedom and prosperity.
They discussed various pressing issues, including the situation in Ukraine and the growing assertiveness of authoritarian states that threaten shared interests, values, and democratic principles through political, economic, technological, and military means.
To address these evolving threats and challenges, President von der Leyen and Secretary General Rutte have agreed to set up a new high-level task force to strengthen the existing EU-NATO cooperation.
Planning for the first meeting of the task force is expected to move forward in the coming weeks.
