Armenia denies agreement to buy Su-30MKI fighters from India
Armenia has no agreement with India to purchase Su-30MKI fighter jets, Defence Minister Suren Papikyan said.
Responding to journalists’ questions, Papikyan dismissed reports of a deal with India for the HAL-built multirole aircraft, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
Indian Defence News wrote last week that Armenia is reportedly finalising a major defence deal with India to acquire 8–12 HAL-built Su-30MKI multirole fighter jets.
The agreement, valued at $2.5–3 billion, includes aircraft deliveries, training, ground support, and customised weapons integration, with first jets expected by late 2027 and completion by 2029.
According to the publication, the Armenian variant will feature Indian upgrades, including Uttam AESA radar, Astra beyond-visual-range missiles, and advanced electronic warfare systems, enhancing air-combat capabilities and regional deterrence.
