Azerbaijan hails UNESCO move to celebrate Turkic linguistic heritage
Azerbaijan has warmly welcomed UNESCO’s decision to designate December 15 as World Turkic Language Family Day.
The announcement was shared on the official social media page of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“December 15 has been officially proclaimed as World Turkic Language Family Day in line with the landmark UNESCO resolution adopted at the 43rd General Conference held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan,” the statement reads.
The date was chosen to commemorate the deciphering of the Orkhon inscriptions, the earliest written records that reveal the deep shared roots and common history of all Turkic languages.
“Azerbaijan views this as an important step in celebrating our rich linguistic heritage, promoting global cultural diversity, and strengthening bonds within the Turkic world,” the Foreign Ministry emphasized.
