EU says it is stepping up support for Armenia amid tensions with Russia
The European Union has said it is stepping up its support for Armenia following warnings from the Kremlin that a so-called “Ukrainian scenario” could be repeated if the country continues its pro-European trajectory.
European Commission spokesperson Anouar El Anouni made the remarks on June 1, stressing that the EU remains committed to supporting Armenia, particularly in the face of alleged threats from Russia, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
“I can tell you on behalf of the EU that we are a reliable partner for Armenia, and our partnership is stronger than ever,” El Anouni said.
He referred to the first-ever EU-Armenia summit held in May 2026, noting that the bloc had used the meeting to reaffirm its “support for Armenia and its future.”
El Anouni also highlighted the EU’s focus on strengthening Armenia’s domestic resilience, stating: “We support Armenia’s democratic resilience, particularly against hybrid threats, foreign information manipulation and interference, as well as attempts to undermine trust in democratic institutions.”
