EU top diplomat rules out achieving peace in Ukraine without European participation
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has said that there can be no agreement on the Ukrainian settlement reached without European participation.
“This war is going on in Europe, concerns Ukraine, but also Europe, and to reach a real peace, the participation of Europe is necessary. I don't see any agreement without EU participation,” she said, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
“For us, helping Ukraine does not mean charity, we are thus investing in our own security,” the politician said.
Notably, since assuming office in December 2024, Kallas has consistently emphasized the EU's unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
On her first day in office, Kallas visited Ukraine alongside European Council President Antonio Costa and Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos. She expressed strong support for a Ukrainian victory, stating," the European Union wants Ukraine to win this war."
In February 2025, Kallas participated in a meeting of the Core Group on the Establishment of a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression Against Ukraine. She emphasized the necessity of distinguishing between war crimes and crimes of aggression, advocating for a clear division between the two.
