Europe finds way to protect itself from rising gas prices
The European Commission has found a way to protect itself from rising gas prices - in the event of a cessation of fuel supplies from Russia, the authorities will set an upper limit on the cost of gas. It is reported by Lenta.ru with reference to Welt am Sonntag.
“In these exceptional circumstances, EU members should be allowed to regulate consumer prices at the state level during a transitional period,” the publication notes, citing a relevant document available.
According to Welt am Sonntag, the catalyst for this decision was the imposition of sanctions by Russia on Western energy companies. The upper limit of gas prices has not yet been determined.
In addition, in the event of a complete cessation of gas supplies from Russia, the European Commission proposes to set a price limit for natural gas. At the same time, the document states that significant funds are required to implement this measure.
